Brazil Ministry Update

In February 2003 Vine House Church was invited by the First Foursquare Church of Manaus, Brazil to participate with them in a joint venture to place Churches in the many little communities that dot the Amazon River in the rain forest. Some estimates place it in the 11-12,000 villages without a testimony of God in their midst. The first location selected for this project was Tabatinga, Brazil. Tabatinga is a frontier town that borders both Columbia and Peru. It is located in the Northern part of the Amazonas state of Brazil.

Pedro and Senida Silva were sent to this location to start a House Church. At the first informational meetings there were 53 people present with three identifiable Christians. Over the last 7 years the ministry up and down the Amazon River has grown from one to currently 65 House or Village Churches in six distinct regions of the State of Amazonas. The ministry has been able to place 5 different boats along the Amazon to help facilitate the ministry to the villages. Vine with the help of Life Bible Fellowship Church has purchased four homes for the purpose of starting House Churches in Tabatinga, Parintins and Atalia do Norte and Nova Olinda. The current locations of ministry are in Tabatinga, Bejamine Constants, Ville Nova, Esperanza, San Lorenz Un, San Lorenz Tres, Uraini, Atalia do Norte (surrounding Indeginous villages),  Ucara, Parintins, Nova Lindo do Norte, San Gabriel Da Cachoeira, Itapiranco, Silves.

Over the last two years we have recognized the importance of training and equipping leaders for these house churches, and we have been able to see a Training center established in Tabatinga where we bring village pastors in to receive training over an extended period of time. In September 2009 we had our first training in the Training center.  Our desire is to see it be a blessing for Tabatinga and surrounding areas.

As the Church we are called to be a blessing to all the peoples of the earth. Our desire is to be just that in each of the villages that we have the opportunity to minister. God is concerned with the Body, Soul and Spirit. We as His representatives must too be concerned with the well being of the whole man. There are many medical needs that exist in the jungle. Malaria outbreaks are common, and with many people just drinking out of the river there is much sickness. In many of the villages, the sanitation-station is a hole in a board in the corner of the house and the septic tank is the grown underneath the house.

There is a great need for the Church to become the blessing in each of these villages. Our desire is to see a house church in each of the villages that dot the Amazon Rain Forest and to be a part of reaching some of the last “Un-contacted” people groups in the world.

This last trip, March 2010 we help establish Churches in Novo Airao, Manacapuru and in a suburb of Sao Paulo. The latter being one of the largest cities in the world is quite different from  the interior jungle.  We are, however staying true to helping people start simple, organic churches even in the "big" city.  The ministry in Tabatinga continues to grow with Churches being established in Peru and in Columbia.

One of the greatest desires we have is to minister to the indigenous people of the jungle. Many of these tribes have had very limited contact with the outside world. These people groups represent the last people on earth that have never been contacted by the outside world and have never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. In our House Church in Atalia do Norte is a family of Indians from the Marubo tribe of The Amazon Rain forest. In another location, we have made contact with the Tucuna tribe. Our House Churches in Benjamine Constant are reaching out to the Indigenous people that surround that community.
